I’ve had several people contact me about the specifics of the 40 Bags in 40 Days challenge. As far as I can find there is no specific way to do this challenge, but here’s my take on it.
Why 40? From what I’ve read many people do this for Lent. It really can be any amount of bags or days that you want…or anything else. I actually had started with 30 bags/days but then realized I had way too much stuff for only 30 days! Truly, I probably need a lot more than 40! But it’s a good start!
How big do the bags need to be? No specific size. I’m going to be using kitchen garbage bags, plastic shopping bags, and boxes for my stuff. I’m personally less concerned with the size of the bag than the act of doing something each day to make progress in regaining control of my house. Clutter be GONE!
Do I need to do bags? Absolutely not! I’ve seen some people specify a specific amount of items each day to get rid of. For example 5 things thrown and 5 things donated or any other number. You can use bags, boxes, or any other measurement that works for you. This is your challenge!
I’d like to do a 40 day challenge but want to do something with my food choices, can I still join you? Absolutely!!! Cleaning up our diets in another way of clearing the clutter! Different type of clutter, but it all counts!
How do I join you? Just start! Let me know by posting a comment or sending me a message. I’d love to hear what you are doing and how it’s going for you. When we work together we can do so much more than alone! If you blog and would like to do a guest post on what you are doing for your challenge let me know!!!
Where did you come up with this? I saw this on Pinterest at least a year ago, probably longer. I had it pinned but had forgotten about it. Recently I came across it again and then realized that I had also put it on my Amazing Life List of 100 things to do this year! I had forgotten that I put it there too! Talk about avoiding the inevitable! I decided it was just time to do it. And blog about it in the hope that I’d be more likely to follow through!
What if I miss a day or two…or more?! Just start where you are and keep going! It doesn’t really matter if you make it through all the days or not. Chances are if you set the goal to do the challenge you will have done more in the next 40+ days then if you had not! For me that’s a big success! If I only get 20 or 30 bags of stuff out of my house I won’t be complaining that I didn’t make 40! I’ll be rejoicing that I have less crap to clean up! We each have different definitions of success. For me it’s about making the effort and doing the best I can in the moment.
That’s what I’ve got so far! My challenge starts June 23, 2014-August 23, 2014…come join the fun!!! 🙂
