On March 27 I set a goal for myself to write 30 blog posts in 30 days. I knew it was going to be a big challenge that would take me way out of my comfort zone. By posting it publicly and telling everyone I knew about it ensured I’d have some much needed accountability to actually follow through with this challenge. While I’d love to be the person that can make a commitment to herself and that be enough to finish it I’ve learned that I’m not that person. I need external accountability.
15 days into the challenge with only 8 posts written my accountability plan went to work for me in a big way! My sister, SocialNicole- the Social Media GODDESS, wrote a great article called A Guide to Setting Big Hairy Audacious Goals and Why You Should Do this Now featuring yours truly! When I say ‘featuring’ let me be clear- great big picture of me and my friend Tina crossing our first marathon finish line with the post talking about my 30 day challenge. With SocialNicole having THOUSANDS of followers and links to my blog post my mind went on freak out overdrive!!!
My first thought- Super cool!
My second thought- when did I last blog?
My third thought….
Oh CRAP!!! I need to climb back on the wagon and get blogging! The whole world now knows what I’m up to!!!
Which brings me to the here and now. At this point it would be easy to beat myself up and say, “Well, looks like I failed again! I can’t follow through on anything. Why even bother?!”
I can brush myself off and start where I am. 8 blog posts in 15 days- that’s pretty darn good for a beginning blogger. And while it’s not one post a day, it is bringing me many steps closer to my ultimate goal which is to blog consistently while I work on figuring out what direction I want to eventually go with my business- artist, coach, entertainer, author, etc…
I’ve learned that consistency is often (always?) more important then perfection.
So, if it’s not already evident, I chose choice number 2!
Here we go- post #9 in my 30 posts in 30 Days Challenge.
