Over the past couple of years I’ve grown to love and appreciate matte medium. I use this primarily for collage to adhere papers of all kinds and light weight fabric onto whatever surface I’m working on. I’ve also experimented with using it to transfer images and it can be used to seal your art work.
Several companies make matte medium, but my favorite is Golden Matte Medium. What I like most is the feel of working with it and that when it dries it’s not at all sticky or tacky feeling. The consistency is smooth making it easy to use.
It’s not cheap, when you compare with other matte mediums and decoupage glues, but it’s well worth the extra money spent in the quality of the product for my mixed media art pieces.
If I’m doing something more crafty I will sometimes use Mod Podge for decoupaging, but I find the final feel of it on my project to be more sticky when it’s dried. Somethings I don’t mind this for like household decorations or kid’s crafts.
And speaking of kids, any of these adhesives bring out the kid in me…I still LOVE to peel glue off my hands when I’m done working. (I’m sure I can’t be the only one who becomes 7 years old again when glue dries on her hands!)
What’s your favorite product(s) to collage with?
