Yesterday I found this awesome bamboo bowl that was natural color on the inside and painted red on the outside. I love the shape, size, and that it’s bamboo. For only $3.99 I decided it was the perfect price to buy it for my bowl of beads that I have sitting out. Currently they are in a glass punch bowl, but there’s something so grounding and earthy about a bamboo bowl that I couldn’t pass it up.
As I was getting ready to fill it with beads this morning I had the idea to paint some henna-esque designs on it in shimmery turquoise…because red + turquoise = FABULOUS! I filled a bottle with a super narrow tip with some acrylic ink and started to draw. Being someone who generally just dives into something knowing I’ll figure it out along the way there was definitely a bit of a learning curve doing this! I’ve never drawn with liquidy paint using this particular tool on a smooth surface bowl before…it’s definitely not perfect, but I’m loving how it’s turning out! And I’m trying to learn that perfect isn’t always necessary. I was a bit apprehensive about ruining the bowl, but I’m so glad that I got my courage up and just went for it…this is fun!
I’m getting ready to be off and running for the weekend, but I wanted to share this with you as my creativity for the day even though it’s not completely finished yet. I’ll probably finish it up later this weekend and will add more pictures then with the beads in it. Until that time…here’s what I did today.
Have you ever upcycled dishes with a fresh coat of paint or something else? I’d love to hear your experiences in the comments below.
